My husband and I traveled around Europe in 2006. In three months we visited lots of countries and over 20 different cities. Of the whole trip the one place we said we would never go back to is Napoli. It was the first time I have seen rats, there was garbage in the streets and overall it had a “scary” vibe. We didn’t feel relaxed there at all. We made the mistake of staying near the station which I think is one of the scarier areas. People in the streets were selling “used” cameras, no doubt just recently used by a tourist around the corner. I am sure there are beautiful parts of the city, we just didn’t find them.

To the point….. this book is based in Napoli It is the story of plain old Eddie who meets a girl and falls in love. Eddie knows nothing about Immacolata, not even where she lives or her phone number. There is no need, she is always at their meeting places when she says she will be. Until one day… Eddie is distraught and decides to go looking for her. His search leads him to Napoli and into the hold of the Italian mafia. That’s enough of you wont need to read it for yourself.

I enjoyed The Collaborator even though it was set somewhere that did not hold good memories for me. Sometimes I found the writing a bit clunky, that it didn’t flow very well. I also found in places it dragged and I found myself skimming paragraphs rather than reading them properly. Overall though there was enough of it that I found intriguing and captivating for me to finish reading it.

Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend that you read it.
