Bookcase Antics

This is my favourite book at the moment.

It was first published in 2005 by Australian Markus Zusak, is an international bestseller and has won many awards.

The Book Thief tells the story of Liesel Meminger, a young German girl who is given up for adoption by her mother. It is set in 1939 in Nazi Germany.

The story is narrated by Death and Death first comes into contact with Liesel when her younger brother dies on the train on the way to her foster parent’s home. Death and Liesel cross paths through out the book.

Not long after Liesel first meets Death is when Liesel first becomes the Book Thief, when she finds The Gravedigger’s Handbook near her brother’s grave. This is the beginning of Liesel’s love of books and reading which is cultivated by her adoptive father, Hans Hubermann.

I love the way The Book Thief is written.
“Papa’s face. It travelled and wondered, but it disclosed no answers. Not yet.”

I would definitely recommend this book to read. The story is fantastic, but most of all I love the way it is written.

I would give it a 9 out of 10

I wish I had only read this book out of the series of 4. It was much better than the first 3. The first three focus on vampires and werewolves but more in the way that they relate to humans. Book 4 changes everything…I don’t want to say too much and give anything away but it is really good. I couldn’t put it down.

The things that happen in book 4 are much more interesting and intriguing than the first 3.

I look forward to them turning this one into a movie, the special effects would be pretty spectacular.
I would recommend only reading this book, but you really do need to read the rest for background.

I am writing about these two books together because they were quite similar.

I can’t say either of them grabbed me at all.

They still kept me turning the page thought which was strange, but I think it was more because I kept expecting something big to happen…..waiting…..waiting…..waiting.

Unlike a lot of the books in my book case I don’t think I’ll be reading them again and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to read them. They weren’t bad, I just didn’t find them interesting.

I would give these two books 2 out of 10.

There was so much hype about these books that I couldn’t help but read them. I just had to see what the fuss was all about.

Like most things, I don’t think this book lived up to the hype. I can see why Twilight appeals to teenage girls.

The main character, Edward, oozes so much sex appeal you think he is going to jump off the page and bite you (and you kind of hope he does)!

Twilight is pretty much a teenage love story, with the big twist being that one of the teenagers is a vampire.

I didn’t love it but thought it was worth reading.

It was a page turner.

I would give it 5 out of 10
